A weekly agent spend review: five questions that take ten minutes

Alerts catch the loud failures. A short weekly review catches the slow ones: a wallet that drifts upward, a recipient nobody remembers approving, a budget that is set too loose to ever fire. Here are five questions to ask of any fleet that pays in USDC.

1. Which agent spent the most, and was that expected?

Sort by agent, not by total. A fleet total can look flat while one agent doubles and another goes quiet. This only works if each agent has its own wallet, which is why attribution by address matters.

2. Who are the new recipients?

List recipient addresses seen this week that were not seen before. Most will be new services your agents legitimately started calling. The ones nobody can explain are the ones to look at first.

3. Did any payment repeat?

Two near-identical amounts to the same recipient within a short window often mean a retry paid twice. One occurrence is a bug report; a pattern is a missing idempotency check.

4. How close did each agent get to its ceiling?

If no agent ever gets near its budget, the budget is decoration. If one hits it every week, either the task grew or the ceiling is wrong. Either way, change the number on purpose rather than by default.

5. Does the ledger match the balance?

Start balance plus inflows minus tracked outflows should equal the current balance, with fees accounted for separately. A gap means untracked spend, a missed wallet, or a rotated address that was never added.
